Shrimp Canapes

Shrimp canapes with guacamole

Many of the appetizers that we usually incorporate into our meals with family and friends are easy to prepare, and we want to have more time to enjoy than to cook.

That’s why today we will cook some delicious shrimp canapés with guacamole in a simple, quick and very complete recipe. Join us to prepare them!

  • 500 grams of large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 2 teaspoons olive oil
  • 1 ½ teaspoons chili powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin
  • ¼ teaspoon smoked paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 cup prepared guacamole
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro and more for garnish
  • Bite-size round corn tortilla chips
  • Crumbled feta cheese or queso fresco to serve
  • Fresh juice of 1 lime

  1. Place a rack in the center of the oven compartment and preheat to 200 degrees Celsius (400 degrees F).
  2. Place the shrimp in a large bowl, drizzle with olive oil, then sprinkle with chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika and kosher salt.
  3. Toss well to coat, then stir in the shrimp and spread out on a large baking sheet.
  4. Roast for 4 to 6 minutes, just until the shrimp are opaque and cooked through. (Don’t overcook; we want tender shrimp.)
  5. In a small bowl, mix the guacamole with the lime juice and 1 tablespoon cilantro. Then assemble your canapes by adding the guacamole on top of each chip and finally the shrimp.

If you want to taste your canapés with a different flavor, you can try preparing a creamy and well seasoned shrimp pate with a touch of jalapeños.

  • Since the guacamole softens the chips as the bites set, we recommend assembling the bites immediately before serving.
  • You can have the guacamole mixed with the cilantro and lime juice ready a few hours in advance. Store in the refrigerator in an airtight container with plastic wrap pressed over the surface of the guacamole to prevent it from turning black.
  • If you want to make homemade guacamole, mash 1 ripe avocado with a fork and mix with the cilantro and lime juice.
