Sinaloa style shrimp tacos

Sinaloa is known for having excellent seafood with which a variety of dishes are prepared, such is the case of fast food and among these dishes we can find tacos stuffed with shrimp.

Today we bring you some shrimp tacos Sinaloa style so you can prepare them at home as if you were in a restaurant in the best Mexican style.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound or 500 grams of shrimp (medium or large)
  • 8 white corn tortillas
  • 120 grams of grated Cotija cheese
  • ½ small purple cabbage, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/3 cup sour cream
  • 1/3 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 large avocado, pitted, peeled and diced.
  • ½ red onion, chopped
  • ¼ bunch cilantro, coarsely chopped
  • 1 cabbage cut into 8 wedges
  • Juice of 1 medium lime
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¾ teaspoon Sriracha sauce or to taste

Preparation

  1. Peel and devein the shrimp and rinse with plenty of water, place in a medium bowl and dry with a cloth. Add the sea salt, ground cumin, black pepper, olive oil, cayenne pepper and garlic and stir to combine.
  2. In a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add a tablespoon of olive oil and then the shrimp. Sauté 1 to 2 minutes per side or until cooked through, transfer to a serving platter and set aside to cool.
  3. Toast 8 tortillas over the flame of an open gas stove over medium-low heat (about 10 seconds per side) until lightly charred on the edges (or in a skillet or griddle over medium heat) until golden brown in spots (30 seconds per side).
  4. Thinly slice the cabbage, finely dice the red onion, dice the avocado and coarsely chop the cilantro. Add the vegetables to a serving platter along with lime wedges.
  5. Assemble the Sinaloa-style shrimp tacos by placing the ingredients and shrimp on top of each toasted tortilla.
  6. In a small bowl, mix together the mayonnaise, sour cream, garlic powder, lime juice and Sriracha sauce and serve with the assembled shrimp tacos.

If you want to prepare the Sinaloa version of the shrimp tacos, just dip the shrimp in a mixture of milk, wheat flour, salt and then fry them in oil or butter.

Tips and advice

  • To check that the shrimp are well cooked, make sure they are white inside with some pink and red accents on the outside. If you use medium shrimp, cook them for 3 minutes on each side.

Sinaloa style shrimp tacos are an excellent tasting option and like many others, they are usually served in two lightly toasted corn tortillas with creamy hot sauce, chopped cabbage and lime juice.
